So some of our ladies at the barn have started their own team called Sassy Classy! It’s aptly named for all our classy ladies in our barn and the fun sassy attitude they have which makes practice a hoot. There is no judgement here as there are all levels and abilities. Striving to build each other up and improve both horse and rider is what got this team started.
Wanting to find something for you and your furry partner to do? We even have pull in available.
This team is completely ran by the ladies that make up the team which means flexible schedules, no pressure and lots of fun. Later evening/weekend practices are followed up by a glass of wine and good conversation. Early practices are usually followed by a quick trail ride around the property, and weekend practices are dependent on availability of riders. The more participation we have the more flexible we can become. It’s only $20 a month to join as the team right now does not participate in any serious competition and it’s more about the sisterhood than performance. You also do not have to own your own horse to join as there are ranch horses available to be leased for the teams use.
FAQ
What patterns does Sassy Classy ride? Most of the choreography is base off commonly used moves and all variations can be found in this BOOK: 101 DRILL TEAM EXERCISES FOR HORSE & RIDER. (Follow link to find book on amazon.)
How often is practice? Right now the set practice is loosely around a group chat depending on everyone’s schedule but we are happy to arrange a different time or additional practice if we have enough solid commitment from other riders. Come official season most likely it will be late evening during the week to give everyone the chance to get to the barn. Usually Wednesday or Thursday;
What breeds/types of horses are required? We are an open team meaning any breed or type of horse is allowed on the team. We have a mix of mares and gelding and for the most part everyone is friendly but kicking and biting is one reason spacing is so important on drill. This also allows you to work of those horses that need to be more accustom to close quarters riding.
What speed are most of the maneuvers performed? The drill is designed to be between 8-10 minutes at a consistent trot but practice is simply spurts of trotting with a lot of walking and working on positioning.
